Riley

It was dinnertime when she and the leopard brothers rejoined the rest of their Pride. They were clean and sleepy, their nap only making the lazy day worse, not better.

She saw Andrew in the kitchen first and walked over to him quickly, nearly skipping to kiss his cheek.

“What did you do to keep busy today?” she asked, knowing he probably went to the diner.

“I went to the diner,” he answered, looking at her. He knew she already knew or could guess. “Phoebe actually needed off early. Carson got sick.”

“Oh, that poor boy,” she said sympathetically. Carson was a quiet, sweet boy, without the excess energy of the Pack’s twins. When he was sick, it was worse. The little man just shut down and lay in bed. It made her heart ache. “I’ll check up on both of them tomorrow.”

“I sent Brenton with soup. I figured Finn getting something from our Alpha would be nice.”

“Very good idea, but stop plotting. Finn would have taken it from any of us,” Gabe remarked, stopping behind her and jumping to sit on the counter. “You normally go, or Riley, and there’s never any problem. They always appreciate it.”

“Yeah, but it also gives Brenton a chance to see a sick kid and worried parents,” Andrew pointed out. “He took Zachary with them. Give them some reality while their heads are in the clouds with ideas of dozens of children.”

“No!” Riley gasped.

“Yes. You might only decide on only one, your decision there, but they both want more than that. They just won’t tell you,” Andrew explained, giving her a gentle and empathic smile.

“I… don’t know how many I want,” she admitted. With a shrug, she looked away. “I just want.”

“We know,” he said kindly, leaning to kiss her cheek again.

Brenton and Zachary weren’t back until nearly an hour later. Brenton didn’t stop to talk to them, mumbling about needing clean clothes and a shower. Zachary looked slightly pale.

She could smell the vomit across the kitchen as they passed by.

“Looks like they got their dose of reality,” Troy mumbled. She glanced at him and saw the grin he was trying to hide.

They moved into the dining room and waited, joking about how Brenton and Zachary had practically run past them. Riley got a text from Phoebe that just had a laughing face in it, but nothing else. It had sent her into a fit of giggles.

It took another thirty minutes for Brenton and Zachary to get to the table for dinner.

“How was your day?” she asked their Alpha first, since he was next to her at his customary spot at the head of the table, with Zachary across from him at the other end.

“It was great until I saw Carson. He isn’t running a fever. No, he’s just unable to keep any of bodily fluids to himself.” Brenton looked agitated.

“This is why Andrew and I normally go without you,” she told him.

“Let’s just… not talk about it,” Zachary grumbled from his spot.

Andrew started laughing with the leopards as they dished out plates of food for everyone.
